Grant criteria and how to apply
Background
Ara Foundation grants are available to students and staff at Ara Institute of Canterbury.
Ara Foundation will hold three grant application rounds per annum.
Round One 2024 (Ara staff and students)
Round one included grants for staff at Ara Institute of Canterbury and grants for students at Ara Institute of Canterbury.
Applications for round one grant opened on 21 June and closed on 5 July 2024.
Round Two 2024 (Ara staff and students)
Round two will include grants for staff at Ara Institute of Canterbury and grants for students at Ara Institute of Canterbury.
Applications for round two grant will open on 21 October and close on 3 November 2024.
Grant Criteria
- Students and staff must submit a written application of up to 600 words that outlines:
- The project
- The planned outcomes
- The benefits to Ara and the individual
- Budget
- Staff applications must include a letter of support from the CE of Ara Institute of Canterbury.
- Student applications must include a letter of support from the head of their department.
- Applications that do not include these will not be considered.
- Applications received outside of the dates listed above will not be considered.
Additional Student Criteria
Students must include information in their application that outlines how their proposed project meets the Ara Foundation Trust Deed objectives. These include:
- To promote and support the general educational purposes and activities of the Polytechnic
- To improve the educational facilities of the polytechnic
- To provide financial assistance (including the provision of scholarships and bursaries) to students of the Polytechnic on such conditions (if any) as they deem appropriate
- To support student educational activities of the polytechnic
- To support staff education and development projects of the Polytechnic
- To support innovative educational projects undertaken by staff of the polytechnic
- To support any other educational enterprise.
Please note your application does not need to meet every objective but should meet at least two objectives.

Staff must also demonstrate how their application meets the strategic focus areas of Ara Institute of Canterbury including:
- Students at the heart of everything we do
- Dynamic world class programmes and delivery
- High performing customer focused teams
- Investment decisions that deliver a sustainable future.
Please note your application does not need to meet each strategic focus area but should meet one of these objectives.

Please submit your grant application and letters of support to office@arafoundation.co.nz by the due date.
Reporting
All grant recipients must report back in person and in writing to the Foundation at the completion of their project. Details of reporting back requirements will be discussed once projects are approved.
